Everything You Need to Know Before Your First Show at Cervantes’

So you’ve got your ticket. Maybe a friend dragged you along, maybe you’ve been meaning to come for years, or maybe you just discovered that your favorite artist is stopping through Denver and Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom is the spot. Either way—welcome. You’re in for a good night.

But before you show up, here’s everything you need to know to make your first visit seamless, comfortable, and unforgettable.

What Is Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom?

Cervantes’ is an independent live music venue at 2637 Welton Street in Denver’s historic Five Points neighborhood—a cultural district with deep roots in the jazz era of the 1930s and ‘40s. The building itself once housed the Casino Cabaret, where legends like Duke Ellington and Count Basie performed. Since reopening as Cervantes’ in January 2003, it’s been one of Denver’s most beloved stages.

There are actually two venues under one roof: the main Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom, with a wraparound balcony that gives the room an intimate feel even when it’s packed, and The Other Side, a smaller room that frequently runs a separate show at the same time. On Dual Venue nights, you get two full concerts for the price of one.

What Kind of Music Do You Play?

The short answer: everything. Cervantes’ books an extraordinarily diverse calendar—hip hop, rock, electronic, funk, bluegrass, jam bands, reggae, country, folk, jazz, soul, and more. With hundreds of shows per year across two stages, there is genuinely something for every kind of music lover. Who Can Come? (Age Policy Explained)

This is the question we get most often, so let’s break it down clearly:

  • 16+ shows: Most shows at Cervantes’
  • For 16+ events: guests aged 14 or 15 may attend if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No one under 14 is admitted.
  • The age policy for each event is listed on the event page on our website and all ticketing platforms—always check before you go. Occasionally there will be 18+ or 21+ events.

If you’re bringing someone young (or if you are someone young), just check the event listing first and you’ll be set.

How Do I Get There?

Cervantes’ is at 2637 Welton Street, Denver, CO 80205, in Five Points.

The easiest way to get here—hands down—is the light rail. The 27th & Welton stop on the D, E, and F lines drops you directly at our front door. It’s fast, cheap, and means you don’t have to worry about driving home after the show.

Rideshare (Uber, Lyft) is also very popular and drops off right out front. If you’re driving, street parking is available in the Five Points neighborhood, though it fills up quickly on busy nights. We strongly recommend transit or rideshare for major shows. There is no designated parking lot.

Is There Food at the Venue?

Yes—and it’s genuinely good. Cosmic Snacks, our on-site restaurant located inside The Other Side, serves fresh, healthy sandwiches and other bites. It’s open during events, so you can grab food before the show or between sets.

“Cosmic Snacks is the best-kept secret at Cervantes’. Arrive early, get a sandwich, find your spot—that’s the move.”

Think of it as pre-show fuel: quality food, approachable prices, and no need to scramble for dinner somewhere else before you come.

What’s the Bar Like?

Both Cervantes’ and The Other Side have full bars serving beer, wine, liquor, mixed drinks, and hard seltzers. Non-alcoholic beverages are also available. Guests 21+ with a valid ID can purchase alcohol.

Cervantes’ does accept cash. Most bar and food transactions are done via debit card, credit card, or digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay). Bring a card or make sure your digital wallet is loaded up.

How Early Should I Arrive?

For popular shows, we recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before doors open. General admission is first-come, first-served, and the best rail spots and balcony positions go quickly on sold-out nights.

Arriving early also gives you time to grab food from Cosmic Snacks, explore the room, and get oriented before the crowd fills in. Door times and show start times are listed on each event page—note that doors and show times are different, so read carefully.

Is There a Coat Check?

Coat Checks are located in the main lobby of Cervantes’ Ballroom and in the back of The Other Side. Coat check is seasonal and only used during the winter months or when we’re experiencing inclement weather. This service is free of charge, but our coat check attendants graciously accept tips (cash/digital options available) in exchange for keeping your belongings safe while you dance the night away. Feel free to call ahead on the day of the show to confirm.

Can I Bring a Camera?

Personal cameras and smartphones are welcome at most shows. Professional cameras (with detachable lenses), audio recording equipment, and video cameras are generally not permitted without prior approval from the artist. Some shows have specific photography policies. When in doubt, your phone is always fine.

Is the Venue Wheelchair Accessible?

Yes—Cervantes’ is wheelchair accessible. If you need special assistance, please fill out the Cervantes’ Accessibility Request Form located HERE.  The purchase of a concert ticket is required prior to the form being filled out.  Upon completion of this form, a member of our staff will reach out to you to confirm your accommodations have been noted. It’s our request that requests are made at least 48 hours prior to the date of the event.
